A Spring That Keeps Flowing

2 Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

The word abound conjures up an image of an artesian well, a spring of water that just keeps flowing and flowing and flowing. It reminds me of when I was a boy, and my aunt and uncle used to take me to Green Springs, Ohio. Those springs had a high sulfur content and a faint aroma of ancient eggs, but because their water was supposed to be “good for you,” occasionally we’d go and have a drink from them. I used to think to myself, “this water just keeps on coming,” and it did. Thousands of gallons of it every hour, pouring out of the earth, crystal clear, icy cold, and that blessed sulfuric content that used to turn my nose!

Spiritual vitality can be just as abundant as spring water. It comes when you take God at His word in this matter of giving yourself away. Paul wrote, “He who soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully” (9:6). That means giving your time without grudging; that means giving your strength without withholding; that means investing your money without miserliness.

Small thought here. Give yourself away and God will make you like an artesian well, just producing and producing and producing, capable of doing everything that you ought to do for Him. Want to abound in every good work? Want to be able to carry the load God wants you to carry at home, or at church, or wherever? Try giving yourself away and then watch God keep His part of the bargain.
